Using Telehealth

How will patients find me?

Patients come in through our Medico care patient platform seeking care. On Medico care, they can browse services by specialty or practice name and will only see services from providers licensed in their state. Through our health plan and employer partnerships, as well as our own direct-to-consumer marketing efforts, we have a robust patient base you can offer services to.

Online Care Group providers also see patients on our partner platforms, including major health systems and hospitals nationwide.

What equipment do I need to conduct a video visit?

You’ll just need one of the following:

  • A computer with an internal or external camera. You can use a wide range of web browsers such as Chrome, Explorer or Firefox.
  • An iPhone or iPad with the camera enabled and our provider app downloaded. We recommend using a stand for your phone or iPad during visits to keep the camera stable.

How do I conduct a physical exam remotely?

Many aspects of the in-person physical exam can also be done remotely. You will be able to visually assess the patient, and can accurately gauge general distress, skin tone, clarity of thought and speech, respiratory rate, work of breathing, gait, etc. You can also have the patient assist in the physical exam, following your instructions to palpate areas of tenderness, assess ROM, assist in moving the camera to visualize areas such as the oropharynx, and assist in abdominal self-exams. In conjunction with a thorough history, many providers feel that the information they can obtain from a video visit is sufficient for accurate diagnosis of many conditions.

Where can I take a video appointment?

You can take an appointment from any private location. Keep in mind that you cannot take an appointment with anyone else in the room with you. To ensure patient privacy, we recommend taking appointments from your home or office with the door closed.

Patients will be able to focus on you better if the environment behind you is a light solid color, clean, simple and not distracting. A light blue backdrop is preferable for the optimal video experience. Position yourself in front of a blank wall instead of a wall full of bookshelves.

What type of training do you offer?

All providers have access to video-based training as well as 1:1 training sessions with a member of our team. Training includes an overview of the Medico care platform and telehealth best practices. Online Care Group providers must complete training and pass a final assessment to see patients.

Payment

Is there any cost to create a private practice?

Independent providers can create a private practice on Medico care for free. We deduct a small transaction fee per consult you have.

How much will I get paid?

If you create a private practice on Medico care, you set your own price per visit. Private practice visits are cash-pay only. Medico care deducts a small transaction fee per visit.

Online Care Group providers are paid a flat rate per visit, which varies by specialty.

How will I get paid?

For Private Practice providers, all visit fees collected for completed visits, net of transaction fees, will automatically transfer to a bank account of your choice on a weekly basis. Patients pay for a visit with a credit, debit, or HSA card right in our secure platform. We collect payment upfront before a visit starts.

Documenting and Prescribing

How does documentation work with a video visit?

The Medico care platform lets you document notes and offers a full library of CPT codes and billable ICD-10 codes. You can choose from our standard notes templates or create your own that can be completed during or after the video visit. The platform also supports secure messaging, patient education materials, e-prescribing and sick slips. If you choose to document during the video visit, it is helpful to tell the patient what you are doing when you are looking away from the patient video. A simple “I’m just looking up some details on your condition” or “I’m locating your prescription now” will put the patient at ease.

How do I prescribe?

You will be able to e-prescribe and manage medications with the highest level of SureScripts integration including full a formulary*, up-to-date prescriptions and geolocation pharmacy selection. There must be video connection in order to prescribe; physicians cannot prescribe based on a phone or chat encounter.

What can I prescribe?

Based on your credentials and verification you may be able to ePrescribe in the Medico care platform. Medications below are excluded from the formulary:

  • Controlled substances (narcotics, anxiety medications, ADHD medications)
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Medications for erectile dysfunction
  • Any additional state specific controlled medications (additional pain medications, pseudoephedrine)
